Really top notch interview. Always like to listen to Russ with his down to earth view on things. Really wish that there would be more of his tolerant approach in this scene.
More of a coversation than an interview which is the best result any interview can achieve.

    Enjoyed it Thx

  2. Youthman says:

I used to hang around the same record shops as Russ in the 80′s, knew the same crowd, and interviewed Russ over a decade ago, and I have to agree, he’s a brilliant person, he really is. Level headed, humble, balanced — a good man.

He deserves all the good wishes he gets.

  3. Youthman says:

PS Great interview too — very relaxed, good vibes, good questions, and you gave Russ time and space to contemplate and answer — you didn’t crowd the man, as some interviewers do, using the interview set up as a launch pad for their own agenda.

Nice listening. I hope it gets a big audience. Maybe youtube it?

  4. dan i says:

Agree with the other posters about the quality of the interview. Very gentle conversation. He is a knowledgeable man and i hope some of our new breed of dubbers listen to his advice – do your own thing, don’t worry too much about specific kit (the bit on sirens is very funny).

  5. Lion says:

    Great work.

    Good artist.

  6. Cosmic says:

I like the album “Resonations” ( Is that the right title? )a lot. Very very heavy, and very original — Russ had a kind of industrial vibe going on there, which stood alone. It didn’t sound like any other reggae, dub, or any other genre records for that matter — I call it ‘cosmic funk’ !

    Cosmic.

  7. Youthman says:

Cosmic, I think that another record “Infinte Density” was also pretty much in the style you describe too.

I know Russ moved back to more ‘conventional’ roots reggae after those records, but I agree, he really had his own style going on on those two albums, indeed.

  8. Derek says:

Hi there – I and my wife work for Channel One Sound – nice interview with Russ and nice to hear a couple of mentions of Channel One! ….
